4. Huon Valley
Land and other resources, sufficient to finance seven rooms, were secured through the generosity of a local private estate trust. Residents for these rooms are not subject to any financial eligibility criteria and a small ingoing fee is charged. The remaining three rooms have been built with assistance from the Tasmanian government, and the usual public housing eligibility criteria applies for these residents. The first residents moved in in March 2001.
5. Launceston
The Abbeyfield Society (Launceston) was formed in 1993 at a public meeting. The house was purpose built on land donated by the State government, formerly part of the Bungawitta Child Care Centre. Funding was provided by government through the Commonwealth/State Housing Agreement and the Launceston City Council donated architectural fees and administrative support. The balance of funds required to carpet the house, furnish the common areas and landscape the gardens, was raised through donations from local businesses, service clubs and fundraising by a committee of volunteers. The management committee is a cohesive group of people dedicated to the welfare of the residents and the Abbeyfield concept.

The building and grounds cater for people with disabilities or in wheel chairs and is conveniently located on a flat area of land close to shops, doctors, chemists, and bus stops. The gardens are extensive, well laid out and regularly entered in Launceston Horticultural Society garden competitions, winning prizes on five occasions, much to the delight of residents.
The first residents moved in in January 1995. Residents are well cared for by the live in housekeeper. They enjoy each others' company and the social functions which encourage visitors to the house, as well as outings to local and country restaurants. The atmosphere is warm and friendly just like a normal family home.
